Astro101

Astro101

THIS APP IS ONLY FOR EARLY VERSIONS OF ANDROID WITH FLASH

Nexus 7 Users- Many of the simulations, and ranking tasks use flash :( There are ways to install Flash however. Search the web for more info

Astro101 will provide you with an engaging, one stop astronomy experience. It provides links to written materials, often including lesson objectives, a collection of easy to understand videos, ranking task games, and simulations from some of the finest universities. For many of the simulations, the larger the device the better. I have tested it on my HTC, and an Ainol Novo 7 generic tablet, with great results. Please realize that these links are web based, and you will need to have a connection in order to access them. I will do my best to repair broken links as I discover them, and add updated information as often as possible. I teach astronomy, and am not a programmer, so be kind on your reviews.
If you're a student, you should have everything here that you will need to be successful in Astro101, delivered in multiple ways that should keep you engaged. If your class uses voter cards, you will find that the standard card colors are also included. Just be sure to ask the prof if it is acceptable. While this can be a tremendous help towards your understanding in the class, it is not a replacement for class, so be sure to go.
If you're an instructor, this app, on a cheap 10" tablet, could open up a lot of opportunities to engage students 1 on 1, or use it to connect to the projector to demo to the entire class.
The resources linked here are all available online. This app simply organizes and connects you to them, saving you time, and frustration.
I have updated the online text, but left this program linked to the archived version due to file size. When you access the readings, you will get a notice that you are on the archive site. Just x out the notice

Recent changes:
I made a new app for tablets. It's the same thing, but the text size had been reduced, and the .SWFs will download to the Nexus 7 when you need them. You can delete them from the dowload folder when your done. This makes them available off-line as well, and reduces the overall size of the app. Just add a flash viewer app. I use SWF Player, you may have a favorite.

Just links to a website The app is simply links to some website. None of the sites load anything but a square white box on my Nexus 4. I cannot give this a rating above 1/5 because the app seems to be useless on my smart phone.

Quite good Easily accessible to users. I have paid for astronomy apps that aren't even a quarter as good. It is an extremely robust app. -Alex Martin
