Catan FAQ:

Question: Why do I have to download additional files after purchasing?
Answer: The download from Google play includes the basic game data and a tool that will determine your device’s display resolution and then download the optimal graphics data for your device.

Question: Which Android security permissions does Catan need and why?
Answer: “Storage” to write data to the SD or move the game data, “Network communication” to download game data and access the In App Store and “system tools” to check if Catan is already running to resume a game.

Question: I bought one of the expansions but after an update, reinstallation of Catan or after restoring my phone the expansion seems gone?
Answer: Don’t worry; your initial purchase is already saved in your Google account. However for technical reasons you might have to select “Buy” again. Confirm and a message will tell you that you’ve already purchased it. You will NOT be billed twice!

Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating from or when restoring my phone. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: Savegames from old versions can usually be restored automatically. For all other cases we’ve integrated a cheat code: Enter campaign mode and go to select player. Enter „CatanWarp*“ (* = 1–15, e.g "CatanWarp5") as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button. Enter your phone’s settings menu. Select applications/manage applications/Catan/ and then “Force Stop”. Restart Catan. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number by selecting “New scenario *”.

User reviews of Catan
I've not played the board game but as far as I can tell this is a very good conversion and the tutorial did a good job of teaching me the basics. The complaints over paying for the expansion seems OTT to me as you don't have to buy it and it's no different from the board game where you can also buy numerous optional expansions.

Would have given it 5 stars if not for the AI Like many others, I am stuck on campaign 6. I also noticed the thing about rolling 7 when you have 8 or more cards. Also once you get near a win, the AI can rob you literally 5 times before you get a turn. Not to mention the AI will make bad trades that let them get ahead. Also last game the AI won with like FIVE victory cards. It feels extremely cheap. They could definitely improve the AI and stop putting all the difficulty based on the robber frequency and how often the AI get victory point cards.

It's normally great but stacked against player Every time a 7 is rolled, the computers go after the player. It gets very tedious when all of your resources are stolen, and of course, the material you need most. Just an update after months of owning game, still stacked against player even though I'm far from being in the lead. This makes me want to stop playing.

Robber ai makes game unplayable After playing thus game for a week, I have decided to stop playing. The robber ai makes the game unplayable. You regularly get robbed 3 times a round making it extremely unlikely that you can do anything for several turns other than watch the computer play... The computer players seem to choose the human whether he is winning our not

50/50 I am incredibly happy this is on the app store and I spend hours on this game. Although one major problem I have is the choppy design. If a developer is selling his game it would probably be for the best to continually update and work out the kinks in the offline and online gameplay. Glitches run rampant which can make online gameplay kind of frustrating. Additionally, why is that there is a price tag on this app but then to unlock additional maps you have to spend even more money? I find weird.

Game is fun, excellent interface. But AI cheats the dice rolls I'm amazed at how well the game plays, and the user interface is well nigh perfect. I do see what others have been commenting on, the computer much seems to stack the dice rolls. If you are ahead and over 8 cards you will see a 7 nearly every time. Very predictable and not at all random. Then you can expect to see your robber blocked numbers rolled. My belief is that they do keep the whole set of rolls relatively random in the game so the distribution chart looks right. But very much will add an edge for a 7 if the player is ahead. The AI opposition also seems to know your Victory Point cards even if not played, where you do not know theirs. Also, have not been able to make the online work. ID never logs in successfuly even when created fresh. Will keep trying though, anxious to play against real players and not the cheating AI. :-) I'm thinking some statistical analysis is in order! :-) This game could (and should) be a 5 if the non-random dice rolls were addressed.
