Why Nexus 7?
Because the Nexus7 was the first Android tablet to ship with Jelly Bean OS

Why Programmable Noise Isolation?
Etymotic headsets offer the highest noise isolation available, blocking up to 98% of ambient noise. There will be times when you want or need to be more aware of your surroundings. Don't get lost in your music, Be Aware!

How does Awareness!® work?
The app listens to the outside world using the Nexus 7 microphone. The patented Essency 'Real-Time Audio Engine' brings sounds from the microphone to your ear, as fast as is technically possible on Android. You can control how much outside sound you hear over your music or movies, without removing your headset and can choose between automatic and manual settings.

FUNCTIONS AND FEATURES

Awareness!® is fully multi-tasking and works in the background while you enjoy your music.

Alert – Flashes to warn of application alerts. One touch brings up the current active alert.

AutoSet - On start up, the app measures the noise around you and then sets the level at which the Nexus 7 microphone switches on, so you hear anything that is louder than the usual background noise. If you change location or want to reset levels, touch the Alert Button at any time for another AutoSet.

Ducking - Smoothly lowers music when the microphone is triggered and turns it back up when outside noise drops to normal levels. (For Google Music Player only) In other music apps / games / movie player etc., the incoming audio is brought up over the music / soundtrack.

Help – bring up an info screen with App version number, Support, URLs & FAQs, plus access to a video showing how to properly insert your Etymotic earphones for best sound.

Level Meter – Shows the level of ambient sound around you from 0% to 100%.

Level Meter Threshold Slider – The curved blue bar on the meter sets the level at which the microphone will switch on. AutoSet does this automatically, or you can set your preferred level by touching and sliding the end of the blue bar in either direction.

Microphone - Switches the headset microphone on instantly. Hear what’s going on around you without having to remove your headset.

Microphone Delay Display – A small numerical display at the bottom right of the meter, shows in seconds the amount of delay you set.

Microphone Level Slider – Allows you to set the microphone signal to a comfortable level.

Power – Turns the app on / off but keeps it ready to go at a moment's notice. The main display dims in the off state and one touch of the power button will restart Awareness!® immediately.

Hardly-functional, and Useless. Need to remove removed the horrible login requirement. Nexus 7 doesn't even have an active data connection anyways, is this just to check to make sure someone put out the money to by the "special" headset. Sorry, but not going to buy headset just to use an app, specially since the ones I already have work just fine (and probably better) Needs to support more devices like Nexus 4 (the other app by Essency Ltd only supports the S3 - it claims because its the most popular phone that has Jelly Bean, yet the Nexus 4 sold out after an hour) But aside from the lack of device support, it doesn't support the 2 devices all that well anyways. Picks up little or to much noise regardless of how you set it. One min I can't hear my music at all, the next its all I can hear... even if I sit there and scream at the device. Nice concept, but needs a lot of work. Would have been nice to have this on my phone for jogging.

Unconvenient and not very uselful 1. Registration required via web interface from the 90s. Absolutely not mobile browser friendly. 2. Detection only volume-based. Noise threshold set low captures all surrounding noise. Set high doesn't react to normal conversational voice volume. Might be useful to hear a truck coming at your but not for a home/office environment. Then again, on the street any threshold is constantly being activated, which is quite annoying. 3. When activated, captures own voice and replays it with a small delay making saying anything very difficult and awkward. 4. HD only in name. 5. Help option not helpful, more like Windows 95 help.

bluetooth support? I can't rate this as I didn't realize I need etymotic headsets for an account to login and use this software. I am a little miffed by that because even though the pairing between their headset and your software may be optimal, it certainly can't be required. But I see on your website that the non-etymotic version will be out in Oct, so I'll try then, not sure why both couldn't be now... However, not sure if you answer these questions but as the nexus 7 does not have the ability to use a mic in the audio jack port, what are you using? The unit's mic? I assume so but what about bluetooth support? I realize android has bad a2dp support (as in high latency) which may make this impossible, but I was hoping with the low-level stuff you have been mentioning that it may get around this. Otherwise, as it gets colder I have my nexus 7 in it's case, which will be in my coat so I can't imagine the unit's mic picking up too much, but whereas the stereo bluetooth headset I'm wearing does have a mic and it'll be a shame if I can't use it with this.
