The rate at which crickets chirp correlates with the outside temperature! Using this app, you can tap along with the crickets chirping to estimate the ambient temperature - no internet connectivity is required. You can also log your chirp data to see how well the chirping rate correlated with the real temperature and other weather conditions. Celsius and Fahrenheit temperatures are both supported.
If you choose to opt-in, you can also contribute your cricket chirping data to a worldwide database which will enable more accurate formulas to convert chirping rate into temperatures. No personally identifiable information is sent to the database; this is a project to satisfy scientific curiosity!
