A daily TV/radio news program, hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, airing on over 900 stations, pioneering the largest community media collaboration in the United States.

Democracy Now! is a national, daily, independent, award-winning news program hosted by journalists Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. Pioneering the largest public media collaboration in the U.S., Democracy Now! is broadcast on Pacifica, NPR, community, and college radio stations; on public access, PBS, satellite television (DISH network: Free Speech TV ch. 9415 and Link TV ch. 9410; DIRECTV: Free Speech TV ch. 348 and Link TV ch. 375); and on the internet. DN!’s podcast is one of the most popular on the web.

WHY INDEPENDENT MEDIA ?

For true democracy to work, people need easy access to independent, diverse sources of news and information.

But the last two decades have seen unprecedented corporate media consolidation. The U.S. media was already fairly homogeneous in the early 1980s: some fifty media conglomerates dominated all media outlets, including television, radio, newspapers, magazines, music, publishing and film. In the year 2000, just six corporations dominated the U.S. media.

In addition, corporate media outlets in the U.S. are legally responsible to their shareholders to maximize profits.

Democracy Now! is funded entirely through contributions from listeners, viewers, and foundations. We do not accept advertisers, corporate underwriting, or government funding. This allows us to maintain our independence.

Unauthorized App Violates Democracy Now! Policies This app is not authorized by Democracy Now and is unethically and illegally making money from advertisements served with material belonging to Democracy Now! Democracy Now! is an independent news broadcast with a policy of not accepting any advertising dollars. I have notified Democracy Now! and it is up to them whether or not to enforce their copyright and have this app removed from Google Play. In the meantime, please boycott this app.

Great show, bad app I just switched from iPhone and the iPhone app is much better. You can listen to individual segments, and you can scrub in the videos. 5 stars if you copy the iPhone app. I'm gone a lot and this is the only way I can get my Goodman on the road in the car. Makes it hard everytime I get a call I have to start over.

Excellent podcast, poor app The is an excellent news source but there are multiple glitches with the app. 1)Trying to skip forward or back results in the app restarting the podcast from the beginning. 2) The volume of the stream is too low - it's often hard to hear if there is any background noise. 3) the only way to stop the app is a forced closure. Otherwise it continues to sit in the task bar at the top of my phone and presumably, drain the battery.
