Everyday Racism

Everyday Racism

Challenge the way you think about racism and look at life through someone else’s eyes. Take the EverydayRacism challenge and experience what life can be like for ethnic and cultural minorities in Australia who face subtle forms of racism every day.

EverydayRacism is an immersive game played out over seven days, giving you an insight into the racial issues many face in Australia. Choose from one of three characters: a Muslim woman, an indigenous man or an Indian student, and for the next seven days you’ll receive simulated texts, tweets, images and videos as though you were them.

How will you respond? How will it make you feel? Can you handle it?

The game also gives you the opportunity to play as yourself, where you’ll witness incidents of racism and their effect on people around you.

The game has been produced by All Together Now in association with the University of Western Sydney, The University of Melbourne and Deakin University.

All Together now is Australia’s only national charity that has a sole focus of addressing racism.

You can't say that you agree there is racism then argue there isn't any in Australia. Secondly you can't deny someone's experiences if you are honestly going to hear them out. I love this app. You feel powerless and helpless.

Far too one-sided. Racism exists, no one is denying that and this application does bring attention to an important issue, which I completely support as I hate racists... But it is largely unrealistic and far too one-sided. Whilst some areas are worse than others, racism is nowhere near as commonplace or accepted in Australia as this application would have its users believe. And let's not forget that certain ethnic groups are treated like kings because of mistakes made over 50 years ago by others - that in itself is racism.

Excellent app Unfortunately this isn't exaggerated at all. In fact it sounds realistic and a daily ocurance. However I think the delivery of this app is slow to grab attention immediately.

Should be as popular as Whatsapp Some people are priviledged therefore find the events in this app "exaggerated", but it isn't. Share this!
