Keeps getting better I beta tested this app and was more than happy to pay for it. The developer is very involved and has been attentive to the feedback given by me.

Works great if you keep things simple. Super features, great maps with purchase. App requires a digital colonic on a regular basis, then perfect.. now testing on my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablet. Still freezes up, drops portions of track. No sync of offline maps between phone and tablet. Duplicates offline maps on download. Trying on phone. Working well there again.

Distance is 20% greater than actual. This app has the best UI for a hiker/walker. However the distance it shows is 20% higher than actual. A group of friends and I used various apps and tools over known distances. The professional GPS units all agreed. Most of the phones using other apps agreed within a tenth of a mile. Those using external GPS receivers with other apps all agreed with the professional units. Unfortunately gaia gps always showed 20% greater distance regardless of which phone was used. Even when using an external GPS receiver gaia showed 20% greater distance. It appears the algorithm used to calculate distance is incorrect or not correctly dealing with the GPS position. Until this is resolved we'll need to forgo gaia gps. Update: BackCountry Navigator is 100% accurate which proves the phones are not at fault. Too bad since I like the gaia UI better.

This WOULD be a great app. There needs to be some improvement made with downloaded maps. My understanding was that the idea for this app was to download maps for use when there is no digital service. However, once I am out of cell range, the maps I have downloaded in advance will not load. I've tried this on two different phones to no avail. I'm sorry I paid for this app. It's a waste of money and when trying to use it, it's a drain on my phones battery. Probably great for the urban user who never leaves cell service. Not even remotely useful for backpackers.

The ability to store maps on external SD cards is not completely supported. Severely limits the available storage for offline maps. Long downloads required for each area loaded, and then erased to make room for a different set of tiles, then reload again if you need the area again . Android version is not keeping up with iOS counterpart. Disappointing.
