SatTrack

SatTrack

This application reveals all iridium flares and satelittes (including international space station and amateur radio satellites) passing by at your location.
An auto-adjusting compass pointing in the direction of the satellite or flare helps you tracing the object.
Notifications can be enabled to warn you whenever a satellite of interest passes by.

The actual data is taken from www.heavens-above.com. They did a great job so check out their website too.
This is NOT the official www.heavens-above.com Android application although the name may suggest this.

I have this app installed, but I can't update it, because the Android app market flags it as incompatible with my phone. (HTC Desire, Android 2.3.7)

Works really well on my Galaxy S. Like the way you can set an alarm for passes. Plenty of usable settings.

How do you select which satellites are desired? I only want a couple, not all of them.

Love it but... It is confusing when it comes to what I want to track (i.e., have in the list) and what satellite events I want notification of. Maybe it is just me.

Just downloaded So far I'm impressed. . More to come after I get the alerts.. . . . The compass works fine on my galaxy Nexus. Always points North. What else can you want from a compass.

Comprehensive Seems to cover all my needs. Tracking across sky, tracking around the earth, compass, brightness, info about object (satellite, rocket body,...). Filters out daylight hours (though also filters our daylight iridium flares - so loss of one star)
