OpenKeychain: Easy PGP

OpenKeychain helps you communicate more privately and securely. It uses high-quality modern encryption to ensure that your messages can be read only by the people you send them to, others can send you messages that only you can read, and these messages can be digitally signed so the people getting them are sure who sent them. OpenKeychain is based on the well established OpenPGP standard (also referred to as PGP, GPG, or GnuPG) making encryption compatible across your devices and operating systems.

Modern encryption is based on digital “keys”. OpenKeychain stores and manages your keys, and those of the people you communicate with, on your Android. It also helps you find others’ keys online, and interchange keys by touching devices. But its most frequent use is in using those keys to encrypt and decrypt messages.

OpenKeychain integrates with
• K-9 Mail
• Conversations
• and many more…

OpenKeychain is designed to be trustworthy. It’s Free Software with no secrets; anyone can examine and validate every bit of it.

Permissions:
• Identity: Pre-fill name and email addresses
• Contacts: Connect keys to your contacts (only offline)
• Photos/Media/Files: Import/export keys from SD card
• Camera: Scan QR Codes to add other people's keys
• Others: Internet permission to retrieve keys, NFC permission to use YubiKeys

Because OpenKeychain is Free Software, anyone can validate that the permissions are indeed only required for the listed features.

First android crypto app that works I was about to give it a mediocre rating because with K9 Mail it managed to verify signatures but not to decrypt PGP mail when I noticed that it's due to a hard to find setting: once you send your first signed mail, it lets you select an account key that will then be used for decryption and all is peachy. It should actually try all available secret keys like GPG does but this way it's still better than the alternatives

Easiest and Nicest Looking Was a little intimidated when learning how to sign and encrypt emails using OpenPGP, but this made getting everything up and running with K9 Mail really easy. Even if your email security method of choice is S/MIME, it's pretty hassle free to also get PGP going using OpenKeychain.

Works great! This program works great whether you use it to directly interface with K-9 mail, or in "cut and paste" mode with Gmail.

Full score ...and still room for improvement. I would love to see more key data avilable in the key list, like key creation date etc. This makes it easier to find old keys on your ring if you have a lot of them. Ideally you should be able to configure your view to your own liking. I have had the app crashing on me several times when trying to revoke keys. Not sure what causes this yet though. Great work!
