WARNING: I have not verified it yet (and if I'm wrong, I'll happily come back here and correct this posting), but right after I installed this, I suddenly started receiving Amazon-related ads "pushed" to my notification status bar (see http://bit.ly/zniPkk). Two apps (one called "Addons Detector," and a brand new utility from the people who make "Lookout" (http://bit.ly/wmroA0)) will help to determine if any apps installed on the phone contain "push" (and other kinds of) advertising; but after suspecting this app of exposing my phone to "push" ads, I uninstalled it before running either utility; so for the moment, my phone shows no apps infected with "push" ads. However, I'm still getting them because such apps notify a server out in the world somewhere of my phone's IMEI number and tell it to start pushing ads at my phone which benefit the app's maker. So, then, with "push" ads, one must not only remove the offending app, but must also stop the "pushing" out on the Internet on the ad server which is "pushing" the ads at the phone. I'm going to write to this app's maker and ask him/her, point blank, if s/he's engaging in this awful activity; and if s/he admits it, and promises to stop it, then I'll do nothing more. But since including "push" ads violates the Terms of Service of at least the Android Market (and I think here, at AppBrain, too), if s/he doesn't admit it, then I'm going to re-install this app, then run the utilities which detect push ads, and if this app contains any, I'm going to do some pushing, myself, to bygod get this app (and all app's by its maker) banned from the Android Market and AppBrain. I'll update, here, what happens. In the meantime, BE WARNED that this app may (and I stress the word because I've not accurately determined it yet) contain "push" ads which harrass you every single day with an ad in the notification/status bar. It's truly maddening; and it's just about the nastiest and most mean-spirited thing that an app maker can do. Let's hope that THIS app's maker has not done it, as I suspect that s/he has. More later.
