Privacy Wizard

Companies that exploit user software should not be allowed to obtain sensitive data surreptitiously. However, with a growing demand for smart phones such as iPhones and Android devices, security and user privacy has become an issue. During a 7-week research experiment, Worcester Polytechnic Institute has collaberated with Abine(abine.com),in attempts to reveal data leakage in the mobile spectrum. The goal is to expose consistent and accurate statistics on the amount of data leaked, and the amount of user control they have to change it. This should motivate even users who aren’t as concerned with their leaked data, as privacy minded individuals, to use the information provided in this app to do what they can to protect themselves. After a data collection from this app and other experiments that we have developed to test data leakage, the results may also raise privacy concerns similar to those seen in the past. The Privacy Wizard App that should generate user information and a lab data collection on the 10 of the top domains used today, will allow us to make inferences that reveal the common user knowledge on privacy related issues and if they can protect there privacy, data, and secure their mobile device. This app is simply an attempt to inform smartphone users of information they are unaware of. The information returned to us is opt in survey responses. Support the research community by submitting your responses, and we will do our best to inform the world of our research, that could in turn potentially protect your sensitive information.
