We all know that being distracted by your mobile when you’re driving is dangerous for you and those around you. Yet it’s always tempting to reply to a call or message when you’re at the wheel. What’s more, your contacts may try to reach you again because they don’t understand why you’re not responding!
This app aims to solve these problems. Using GPS, "I’m Driving" detects automatically when you’re driving and handles your phone for you on your behalf. With the app you will no longer be distracted by incoming calls and texts, and those trying to get hold of you will be informed by SMS that you’re driving. (These messages will be charged at the usual rate).
If you have an in-car kit, the application will recognise it and continue to let calls through when you’re connected to it.
Once you’ve stopped driving, "Responsible Driving" gives you a summary of all the events you missed while you were at the wheel.
If you are a passenger in a car, or on public transport for example, you can at any time disable the "Driving" mode. You can also enable the mode manually if for some reason the service has not done so automatically or if you do not have GPS available.
You can also use the service when riding your bike by selecting the appropriate setting.
Please note that:
- The safest behaviour for a car driver is always to switch off the handset before taking control of the vehicle.
- Using the service is a general precaution allowing the user to configure the service to limit any inadvertent handset pick-up whilst in the car, in cases where the User has forgotten to switch it off.
- Using the service should not be interpreted as providing any assurance that the handset will not sound or provide alerts while the User is driving, in particular owing to the fact that handset motion sensors remain largely unreliable.
