Scanner For Zotero

Scanner For Zotero

Note: There have been numerous complaints that the app no longer works. As I've not had time to fix it, and do not foresee myself fixing it in the near future, I'm making this version free.

Scanner For Zotero brings Zotero's magic wand tool out into the physical world. Scan the ISBN barcode on any book, and Scanner For Zotero will fetch that item's bibliographic information from the web and allow you to add it to your Zotero library.

Don't know about Zotero? It's an extraordinary tool which allows you to collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. Learn more at http://zotero.org.

Scanner For Zotero is Free Software, the version you see here costs a few dollars just to cover development costs, but the code is licensed under the GPL. You can download the code, or even an APK, from https://github.com/jmschanck/Scanner-For-Zotero, but please consider downloading this version if you like the app and want to see its development continued. Thank you!

Features:
* Barcode scanning and manual ISBN entry
* Bibliographic lookups through Google Books and Worldcat
* Uploading to both user and group libraries
* Editing items before upload
* Note taking
* Tagging
* Batch uploading
* Multi-user support

Recent changes:
New method for creating API key. Should fix some of the problems people have been having.

Note: Does not work in Android 2.2.2 because of an error in how that version handles SSL.

Very Helpful on the whole I use this app frequently, both on my Blackberry Passport and on my Samsung Note 8. It syncs well with my Zotero references. My only concern is that I am unable to enter new references using ISBN numbers. When I enter the ISBN number using the "add by identifer" command. the app seems to go into an infinite loop and never adds the requested information. This happens both on the Passport and the Note 8. This severely limits its utility for mobile use in libraries, bookstores, etc. If this problem is fixed, I would give it 5 stars.

Wish I had seen this sooner, but... I already started with another app that can export .csv files. Is it possible to import .csv files from another app?

Amazing Works great - have encountered a few books where the app doesn't recognise the book or it can't grab the author name etc but on the whole it works very well. I will be blipping my way down the library aisle

Simple, but effective There isn't much to this app but it does what I want it to: scans the upc code and inserts the book into my zotero library. Would be nice if future versions could handle older books, perhaps by looking up titles.

Fundamentally doesn't work. I am fine paying for an open source app...if the installation routine works but this doesn't. Won't be recommending this.
