SMS To Do List is a way to send important notes via SMS text messaging to a Minimalistic Text Widget on the Home Screen. Minimalistic Text (available through play store) is required for ‘SMS To Do List’ to work.
It works by taking any SMS you receive that includes the phrase (to do) including parenthesis, and pastes the entire message into the Minimalistic Text Widget.
This is handy for remembering to pick up a gallon of milk or some TP on your way home from work. Just have your room mate text it to you and it will be on your Home Screen until you clear it.
It is very simple and requires a minimum of permissions, and has no user interface in of itself. You can, however, use the options in Minimalistic Text to alter the size, color, and other attributes of your actual ‘To Do List’.
To set it up you will need to download and install SMS To Do List and Minimalistic Text. First add a Minimalistic Text widget to your launcher’s home screen. I use the 4x3 (hor) option so I can fit a large amount of text on the widget. Select the ‘Simple Time’ layout. Scroll over to the Layout options tab and tap the plus sign at the bottom left. Scroll over to the MISC tab and check the Locale variable option. Tap OK. Next, press the three dots at the end of the first row and select Delete Row. Tap the grey Locale Variable button and input the word NOTE in all caps and tap OK. Scroll over to the MISC tab and check ‘Allow Screen Off updates’. Tap the floppy disk icon at the top to save. You’re Done!
When you receive a SMS that includes (to do) in the message it will appear in the widget.
When you want to clear the widget, just tap the To Do app icon. I placed mine near the widget on the Home Screen so I wouldn't have to navigate to the App Drawer to clear it each time.
Please email me with any problems you may be having on your device. This should work with any phone running Jelly Bean.
