Solaris Alpha

Solaris Alpha

The best aurora and solar flare app for Android - Solaris Alpha gives you features the others don't!

- REALTIME solar flare, geomagnetic storm, and aurora alerts!
- 3D ultraviolet sun maps, including REALTIME channel!
- 3D Earth map showing aurora, clouds and sunlight!

Be ready for space weather storms with Solaris Alpha, featuring realtime 3D views of Sun and Earth. Receive automatic solar flare, geomagnetic storm, and aurora alerts on your phone!

Solaris Alpha's 3D Sun view displays the latest xray flares and sunspots on our home star, at four extreme ultraviolet wavelengths. Effortlessly move around the Sun and zoom into interesting regions with a touch of your finger!

But there's more - this app also features a realtime 3D view of Earth's aurora, cloud-cover, and sunlight. Watch northern and southern lights, storms, and sunshine move across our planet - all in the palm of your hand!

The application uses data from NASA STEREO, SDO and NOAA polar orbiter spacecraft - downloaded from outer space to your phone. Solaris Alpha alerts you with a ringtone when new solar flares are detected, geomagnetic storm level increases, interplanetary magnetic field turns south, or when the aurora may be visible from your phone's location. If you are interested in solar astronomy and space weather, you need this app!

The app's storm/aurora/flare detector automatically starts when your phone boots, and you will receive alerts whether or not SolarisAlpha is running (uncheck "Start detector at boot" from Solaris' "Settings" menu to disable auto-start on boot). PLEASE NOTE: Android does NOT support start-on-boot of apps stored on the SD card, so you must install SolarisAlpha on your phone to enable this feature.

User reviews of Solaris Alpha
Great App, but has a few minor bugs for me. Using samsung galaxy captivate, froyo 2.2. Does not sync properly, and re-notifies me of the same events that it already notified me of. New events do not seem to sync with phone unless I open the program. Other than this, love the app.

Great app. Would like to see it lock on phone location and keep the sun location (towards earth) stay the same. If I move one, the other moves as well (want it to show phone location on aurora and "towards earth" on the other.

Love it but... Love this app but lately it's been having catastrophic failure which results in the phone freezing for five minutes and the desktop resetting. Maybe I'll reinstall it again later.

Nice app!! I am a science nerd so this app is perfect for me. I also use it as a homeschooling tool to teach my daughter. We enjoy looking up more information about the solar flares and storms. My only complaint is that I would like to see the 3D sun but haven't figured out how to do that. This isn't an app issue, strictly a user issue.
