Speech Assistant AAC

Speech Assistant AAC

Speech Assistant is an AAC app designed for people who are speech impaired, but are able to read. This may be in the case of aphasia, MND/ALS, after a stroke, in case of vocal cord problems or other speech problems. The app can also be a tool to practice during rehabilitation.
With the app you can create categories, words and phrases, which are placed on large buttons. With these buttons you can create messages that can be shown or spoken. It is also possible to type any text using the keyboard.

Speech language and voice
The voice is not part of the app, but the app uses the voice that’s installed on your device. For instance the voices from Google Text-to-Speech. You can change the voice in the settings of your device. You can also download other voices or speech languages from the Google Play Store from companies like SVOX, Acapela or Ivona.

FIVE STARS!!! This is the best AAC app for those who are nonverbal & learning to type to speak. I have tried many apps, both paid and free, and this one is worlds above the rest! My child had a stroke, is autistic and is not only nonverbal but also visually impaired so the speak character option is perfect for letting her know she has pressed the correct key. The ability to use a USB keyboard, set shortcuts & option to prevent double tapping addresses motor control issues. Custom options to enlarge the display, text, set colors, button & common phrases are invaluable as well. Being able to save the profile allows me to easily transfer app settings & changes to her school tablet. Thanks to this app my child will finally have a voice!

I've tried several speech apps, this is one of the best, easy to use with clear speech, pity it doesn't come with male voice but that's typical of all these apps

Awesome! This is an amazing app. I have raved about it to many friends suffering from the same or similar conditions to what I have, and many have found it helpful. The new keyboard controls are great as well and really help me out. The only thing I would ask is to perhaps allow any button or combination of buttons to be used for navigation. For example, my bluetooth keyboard's setup would make it much more convenient to use the "function" key as one of the options for either switching between categories and words or selecting something, but right now that's not an option. Still, this app is really terrific. It gets full time use around here. Edit: Thanks to the dev for adding the F1-F3 keys for keyboard navigation. However, I meant the actual function key ("fn" on the keyboard). F1-F3 are too out of reach during navigation to be practical. But it's a start! Will be purchasing the full version of this awesome (and useful!) app.

I teach and this is a fantastic tool. It is now my "voice" in the world. My larynx was removed in January of 2015 and I fully expected there to be a lot of inexpensive tools for me to work with. In the Windows environment, they were either buggy or too expensive, and in Linux, the text to speech offerings were, with one exception; pure, without-a-doubt garbage. The problem isn't with the developers, it's with the proprietary "voices" that are mostly not available for free implementation. Wanna sound like a robot? There's an app for that! However, I found this application while searching the Droidosphere. It could stand to be named something a bit more snappy but if it works for you....=:^)) I am running this app on my Nexus 7 tablet and it works great. "Can I make it work the way I want it to work"? Yes. 5 stars worth. If I had any little niggle with this app, sometimes when I click the speaker to play the text, it picks it up in the middle of the string. I have to click the speaker again to make it say the whole sentence from the beginning. Other than that? This is probably the best app in existence that provides REAL and serious help for people like me. Most certainly 5 stars.
