TeXPortal Free

TeXPortal Free

TeXPortal is a TeX/LaTeX compiler app, converting your tex document sources to PDF via the familiar TeX toolchains. It also fixes common TeX problems automatically, automatically installs missing packages just like MiKTeX on Windows platform. For more information, please visit http://lameandroidhero.bitbucket.org/

On Android 4.4 and 5.0, there might be permission problems when compiling files in external SD card.

This free version only provides the most commonly used TeX command, namely pdfLaTeX. Check out our full version for Xe(La)TeX, Lua(La)TeX, ConTeXt, DVIPS, BibTeX, PS2PDF, etc.

Notes: For your safety, TeXPortal Free exits itself whenever it is interrupted (i.e. put to the background) such as when the screen rotates, you press the "Recent apps" button, switch to another app, etc. Therefore, please keep your screen on, lock screen rotation, do not plug in keyboard, etc. when compiling documents.

This app might download additional packages from the web. To save your data plan as well as for the best experience, run the app when you have a stable WIFI connection.

Recent changes:
* Support EXTERNAL SD card in Android 5.0 Lollipop: use menu command "Grant SDcard access" on the action panel, pick the external SD card folder to grant the app access to it. Note that this is only applicable on Android 5.0 Lollipop; 4.4.x Kitkat users have no choice but only compile files on INTERNAL sdcard.

Very useful. Worth the price. The application is the only one that does a decent job in the offline regime. So far it managed to do all it was supposed to. It installs the missing packages unnoticeably fast! The only drawback is the lack of some basic functionality like searching the text, syncing with the output pdf file, jumping from the error in the log file to the corresponding spot in the text, better integration with Dropbox ( like not having to have a separate directory for the app), etc. Hopefully, the developer considers these basic needs in near-future versions. Then the app will definitely become irreplaceable.

Advertising over Home screen When an app is this intrusive, placing apps over my *home screen*, it doesn't deserve a place on my device.

REALLY GOOD!!!!!! It's really good. I compiled my master thesis (~100 pages) in 30 seconds using a Nexus7 (my computer needs around 15s). Wanted feature: back-up and restore list of installed packages :P
