TouchDAW

TouchDAW

TouchDAW is a full-featured DAW controller plus some general purpose MIDI tools. It lets you remote control popular digital audio workstation software as known from standard hardware control surfaces.

This is a MIDI controller! The app does not itself play or record audio!
Try before buy! Free version available for testing.

Supports Cubase / Nuendo, Live, Logic, Pro Tools, Sonar, FL Studio, REAPER, Reason, Studio One, Samplitude, SAWStudio Digital Performer (7.2+), Vegas / Acid, Tracktion and Bitwig workstations. Standard functionality like mixer and transport operation will be accessible in other applications with basic control surface support as well. As of version 1.1 the app can also send MIDI Machine Control (MMC) in parallel with or alternatively to standard DAW control.

Besides control surface emulation, the app brings a number of general purpose MIDI controllers, such as a multitouch MIDI keyboard, multitouch launchpads, a MIDI mixer, configureable xy-controller pads and the possibility to link a phone's sensors to MIDI controllers.

TouchDAW works with RTP or multicast MIDI over WIFI and is directly compatible with Apple's Network MIDI implementation in Mac OS X, native RTP MIDI implementations for Windows and ipMIDI. There is no computer side server or protocol conversion software other than the driver required.
Later versions add support for MIDI over tethered USB connections, ADB and WebSockets. A free driver, available from our website, is required for those.
As of version 1.4. the app can also be used with class-compliant USB MIDI interfaces on devices that support USB host mode.

The apk contains both tablet and phone versions. You can safely ignore Google's "Designed for phones" tag.

Try before buy! The free version - though feature limited - is mostly identical and will let you check if things are useable with your network setup before spending money.

The app needs some initial PC-side configuration, see website for help.

An accidental "find" that's proving useful Found this when looking for something similar. Liked the free version but at the low price took the plunge. Initially a little fiddly to set up, but nothing that a quick read (a couple of times) couldn't put right. I use it with REAPER (with the Mackie protocol with the Klinke extensions). Love the virtual MIDI keyboard which I use with Notion 5. Not sure how it would work out with a small phone screen (I have large fingers), but on my Note Pro 12.2 it looks great and it's very useable. Definitely worth the price.

When it works... WOW... if/when it works... This is the most ridiculous things to set up. Wasted a day trying out all the different ways to make this work. None of them did, until I tried rtp using MIDIhub. There are a few bugs that cause sticky key press and sometimes sound doesn't play when using the keyboard or pads, then I hit play on the transport and all the presses play at once and then it works again... for the most part, after the headache of setting it up, this works quite well. Not better than hardware, but if you need a portable cheap mixer and transport, drumpad and keyboard and have a tablet, this is a good option. UPDATE: total crap, back not working, the MIDI port software rtpMIDI and MIDIhub are making up connections and mixing stuff up and doesn‘t work and I did nothing. This is to unstable to rely on, which is a shame as the fault isn't this app but the other software required to use it. For now, kind of a waste of money.
