Viamici is the first map georeferencing application on the mobile market. It will allow you to see your current GPS position on top of any map saved in a graphic file (e.g., JPG, PNG). You can even use a photo of a map encountered on a trail. In the demo a position is shown within 100 meters from calibration points.

Works pretty good but beware... I had this on my Galaxy S and used it a few times on ATV trails as well as once at a local corn maze. It was pretty handy and worked Ok. However when I replaced my phone I was informed that the license is not transferable and in order to continue using the program I would have to drop another $10 and continue to do so whenever changing phones. That's not acceptable for me so I haven't used it since.

Cool app but limited by the way the control points are captured Three stars for such a good idea however the way the program captures the control points really only suits small areas. This app would be amazing if you could use other reference data such as google maps to select the control points. I was hoping to use it to reference tourist hiking/touring maps in Asia before heading off on motorcycle trips. Even with a lower accuracy those maps prove useful just to orientate yourself. Cheers! Let me know if this is possible and ill buy the full version!
