Norton Halt is a first responder app specifically designed for your smartphone that alerts you about the latest, breaking security exploits, including the lock screen bypass bug, Exynos 4 processor chip security flaw and USSD code attacks. These vulnerabilities allow attackers to bypass system permissions, gain access to RAM, inject malicious code, install unauthorized apps, and steal your personal data.

The Exynos 4 processor chip, used by several popular Android smartphones has a serious security flaw. The exploit allows malicious apps to gain root access to the system without asking for permissions.

The USSD codes exploit has the potential to initiate a complete wipe of data on your phone and SIM card. Smartphones and tablets running anything below Android 4.1.x (Jelly Bean) are vulnerable. It is highly recommended that you address this flaw immediately, as your mobile carrier may not have provided an over-the-air software update.

WHAT IS THE LOCK SCREEN BYPASS EXPLOIT?
Norton Halt protects against multiple types of lock screen bypass exploits. The first exploit may grant full access to your device by disabling the PIN/password/pattern challenge feature. Once disabled, the challenge screen will not come back unless the smartphone is rebooted. This exploit primarily affects Galaxy S3, Galaxy S3 Mini, and Galaxy Note II smartphones. The second type of lock screen exploit may grant momentary access to the home screen or any application running in the foreground from the emergency dialer or the emergency contacts screen when your device is locked. This exploit primarily affects Samsung Galaxy S2's, S3's and Note 2 smartphones.

WHAT ARE USSD CODES?
USSD stands for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data and is a session based GSM protocol unlike SMS or MMS. Typically, it is used to send messages between a mobile phone and an application server in the network. There are multiple services based on USSD such as: mobile banking, social networking (Facebook, Twitter), over-the-air mobile software updates, and prepaid/recharge accounts.

WHAT IS MOBILE ADWARE (MADWARE)?

• Freedom to navigate the app without walls. Forcing the user to click on ads or submit personal information in order to fully use the app provides a poor user experience.
• A private web browsing experience. In-app ads should not interfere with third party ads and websites.
• An honest product description. Deceptive app developers have provided inaccurate statements and claims to increase downloads.

Only install an app if you trust the app's developer. This includes current app versions and updates. Use a madware killer or stopper to help you evaluate an app's trustworthiness.
