SMS Backup & Restore

SMS Backup & Restore is a simple Android app that backs up and restores your phone's text messages.

- Backup SMS Messages in XML format.
- Choose a scheduled time to automatically backup.
- Backup format is independent of the Android version so the messages can be easily moved from one phone to another, irrespective of the Android version.
- Option to select which conversations to backup.
- View/Restore all Messages or only selected conversations.
- Delete all SMS Messages on the Phone.
- Email a backup file.
- Automatically Email or Upload to Dropbox & Google Drive using the Add-On.
- The XML can then be converted to other formats, and can also be viewed on a computer.

Please note that this app does not support MMS (Picture/Audio/Video) messages.

This app is ad-supported and requires the Internet permissions to display the Ads.
If you do not want ads the they can be disabled from preferences or you can buy the paid version from the Market.

On newer phones with inbuilt storage the default backup location will probably be the internal storage card and not the external.
This is because the phone reports the storage that way.
If you intend to do a factory reset on the phone, please make sure you save/email a copy of the backup outside the phone before doing it.

Please start the app at least once after updates so that the scheduled backups start working.

Developers are not able to respond to comments posted on the market, so if you have question or a problem please either send emails or post them on the website.

This App needs the following permissions to work:
* Storage - modify/delete SD card contents (android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): To create the xml file on the SD card.
* Your messages - edit SMS or MMS, read SMS or MMS (android.permission.READ_SMS, android.permission.WRITE_SMS): Needed to read SMS during backups and write them during restore.
* Your personal information - read contact data (android.permission.READ_CONTACTS): To display and store the contact names in the backup file.
* Network communication - full Internet access (android.permission.INTERNET): For displaying Ads.
* Network State - (android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Required by the Google Admob Ads so that it can check the state of the network before requesting Ads.
* System tools - prevent phone from sleeping (android.permission.WAKE_LOCK): To prevent the phone from going to sleep/suspended state while a backup or restore operation is in progress.
* Hardware controls - control vibrator (android.permission.VIBRATE): To vibrate the phone when an operation is completed.
* Read Phone State and Identity - To fix an error caused during Restore on some phones.
* Automatically Start on Boot - Start Scheduled Backups.

- Added an alternate Restore method as a workaround for Restore problems on some devices. The app will prompt the user to try the alternate way when the restore fails. It can be manually switched on from Preferences as well. The alternate Restore may result in the Phone App crashing, pressing OK on the message will restart the app. After that Resume Restore.
- Opening the app after a failed Restore will prompt to Resume Restore.

SMS Backup & Restore Add-On

Add-On for SMS Backup & Restore - Allows the app to
- Automatically upload to Google Drive.
- Automatically upload to Dropbox.
- Send automated emails after a backup.

This app does not appear in the list of apps in the phone launcher. It is used by the SMS Backup & Restore app and gets opened from the "Backup Settings" screen of that app.

Google Drive:
It may not work with all devices as the Google Play Services may not be available. Please get in touch with me if you get problems.

Dropbox Settings:

This app only has access to its own folder and does not have access to other Dropbox folders.
Check the "Use Browser for Authentication" if you want to use your default/external browser for authentication rather than the built-in functionality.

Email Settings:

All the settings on the screen are dependent on the Mail Service Provider that you use. The details about the service can be found on the providers site. Some of the common ones are linked at the bottom of this section.

Sender Email Address: The email address from which the email should be sent.

Recipient Email Address: The email address of the recipient. If you are sending the email to yourself then this will be the same as the Sender Email Address.

SMTP Server: The HostName/IP Address of the email SMTP server. For example: smtp.gmail.com for Gmail.

Port: The port used by the SMTP server. Normally 25/465/587. For example: 465 for Gmail.

Security: The security used for connecting to the SMTP server. Use SSL/TLS for Gmail.

Require Login: Checked if the SMTP server needs you to authenticate before sending emails. Check this for Gmail.

User Name: The user name required to authenticate with the SMTP server. For Gmail, its your email address.

Password: The password required to authenticate with the SMTP server. For Gmail, its your Gmail password. If you use 2-step authentication in Gmail, you'll need to generate an application specific password.

Subject: The subject for the email.

Body: The message content for the email.

Call Logs Backup & Restore

A simple App to backup and restore Call Logs (History). Backup is stored by default in /sdcard/CallLogBackupRestore folder.

* Automatic Scheduled Backups.
* View Backup Contents from within the App.
* Backups created in XML Format on the SD Card.
* Option to specify the Backup folder.
* Internet permission for Ads.

Android only keeps history of 500 calls, so something like this is a must if you want to keep your call history.

APN Backup & Restore

A simple App to backup and restore APNs (Settings to connect to the internet with the mobile connection). The backup is stored in the /sdcard/APNBackupRestore folder.

NOTE: Starting with Android 4.0/ICS, 3rd Party apps don't have access to write APN settings, hence this app no longer works for restoring APN backups as a normal app. You can convert it to a System app using Titanium Backup on a rooted phone and use. Instructions:
- Open Titanium Backup
- Go to backup/restore tab
- Find APN Backup & Restore on the list
- Long press on the app when you find it
- Select Convert to system app
- Open APN Backup & Restore
- Click menu and disable ICS check

Data Controller 2 - Trial

Take control of your roaming charges!

A simple app that lets you decide on which network should the phone be allowed to use Mobile Data.
Its useful when you want to roam/connect to networks other than your home network but not use data.

This is a 14 day trial.

It works by monitoring the network operator and enables or disables the Mobile Data via the Settings of the phone.

Most users don't need this app as the "Data Roaming" setting of the phone works fine for them but there are some cases where either the setting doesn't work or the user is allowed to connect to multiple roaming networks and only wants to use data on certain networks.

After the trial expires you'll have to install the paid Unlocker from the Android Market / Play Store.

Stop 3 Data Roaming

App for Android users on 3 Mobile in Australia to stop the phone from using expensive data while Roaming in Australia.

Since Android 4.0/ICS does not allow changes to APN Settings by 3rd Party apps, this app now enables and disables the Mobile Data Access on it. Still works using the APN process on previous versions of Android.
Most users of the 3 Mobile service in Australia who use the data services would know that if the phone starts Roaming on the Telstra network and you use the data then you get charged 50c/mb for the data and its not covered in the cap allowance.

There is a setting in the Android phones to Disable the data usage while the phone is roaming but due to the way 3 have implemented the “Roaming” arrangement with Telstra, the phone actually does not detect that its “Roaming” and hence keeps using the data.

If your phone has some apps running which are using data in the background or for instance you are listening to streaming radio or watching youtube videos, you would not know if the phone has gone into roaming and it can result in potentially hefty roaming charges in your next bill.

This App runs as a service to monitor the current network operator and changes the APNs if the phone goes into Roaming, hence making the phone unable to access data (due to invalid APN settings). When it detects that the phone is back on 3, it’ll switch the data back on. It also displays a notification icon after it toggles the data access to make it easy for the user to identify if the phone is roaming or not.

Please do not install if you are not on 3.
