Yara CheckIT is an agricultural smartphone app that gives farmers a photographic library of the crops to allow a simple and fast identification of possible nutrient. Once the cause of the deficiency is established, the app gives the further information on how the deficiency affects that crop, what soil types are prone to this type of deficiency and what factors will make a deficiency worse. CheckIT provides a fertilizer recommendation to treat the identified deficiency, as well as alternative products which allow preventing treatment for the following growing season.

The application is customized and localized on a market by market basis, for the crops and language specific to the target country. CheckIT has been carefully designed to operate in rural locations with low signal strength. This enables farmers to have an on-the-spot, on-demand field analysis and recommendation for a crop deficiency in order to improve crop quality and increase yield. Users can reference photos of deficiencies in high definition, filter them by symptoms, the location of the symptom on the crop, or by the suspected cause of the symptom. CheckIT can also use mobile location services to provide contact information for the nearest Yara office.

Yara TankmixIT

The Yara Tank Mix Guide is a database of the results containing thousands of individual two-way or multi-component tank mix tests of YaraVita™ products with other spray materials.

Access is freely available to everyone and allows better planning of spray programmes and spraying opportunities with most of the YaraVita™ range. Each tank mix test is carried out under controlled conditions in our product development laboratories following BS EN ISO 9001:2000 guidelines and represents a fair measure of the performance of each mixture made. Of course, there are many variables in making tank mixes under field conditions that can influence the mixability of any mixture made and so the Tank Mix Guide is just that, a guide, and not a guarantee of either physical or biological compatibility.

As tests are made, the on-line database is instantly updated and using the guide is simplicity itself. All that needs to be done is to enter the site, read and accept the contents of the disclaimer and select a country to access the appropriate product range. From here the partner spray material can be selected either by trade name or active ingredient. The YaraVita™ product is then chosen as well as the partner spray material. A full list is then generated of all laboratory mixtures made involving the two selected products and the result of the tests. If the required combination is not found, and the spray materials are available in our laboratories, a test can usually be made within a few hours.

To have access to such a database represents a powerful advantage for the YaraVita™ range over other competitor products in a market as better judgements and therefore more reliable advice can be given on the suitability of a spray mixture. This enhances the overall value of the YaraVita™ package not only to provide the best quality products but also to provide the most accurate user information available.

Yara ImageIT

Yara ImageIT is a farming app designed to measure nitrogen uptake in a crop and generate a nitrogen recommendation based on photographs of the crop.

Besides showing the user how much nitrogen to apply to obtain optimal yield and crop quality, ImageIT provides quality assured fertilizer recommendations with Yara preferred product and contact information of the closest Yara office.

  The app turns a farmer’s smartphone camera into a high-tech crop nutrient tester. ImageIT calculates nitrogen uptake based on leaf cover, leaf green color and estimated fraction of brown leaves. The technology behind the application is a comprehensive image analysis that classifies leaf pixels, filters noisy areas and counts leaf pixels. Despite being an advanced agricultural tool ImageIT is user-friendly and flexible in terms of technical requirements. The app is largely insensitive to camera type and works with low resolution images with a file size as small as 50 – 200 KB.  

In poor signal areas ImageIT can store images offline to enable photo capture with no network access, and send the photographs for interpretation when the smartphone reaches a wifi or 3G zone.
