192.168.1.10 — The Repeater's Own Address

192.168.1.10 is hardly ever the main router. It is a fixed address handed to a piece of equipment that has to stay findable.

✦ WHERE IT COMES FROM
Access points, WiFi repeaters and mesh satellites are the usual holders of .10. It sits low enough to fall outside the pool of automatic addresses, and high enough to leave the first few numbers for the router and a server or two.

✦ INSIDE THE APP
• Factory logins for 298 router brands, with the ones you tried marked
• Security: the factory password is tested; WPA2/WPA3, WPS, guest network and firmware are yours to tick
• Read the WiFi key from the router label or its QR code, nothing kept or sent
• WiFi details at a glance: signal, band, channel, SSID, IP and subnet

✦ TYPICAL USES
• Open the web page of the device on .10
• Find the real gateway address of your network
• Tell whether you are on the repeater or the router

✦ A FEW DETAILS
Its settings page is separate from your router's. Changing the WiFi key on the main router does not always reach a repeater configured this way, which is why one network keeps working and the other stops.

✦ NO MAGIC
What it saves you is the typing and the searching, not the permission: it bypasses no authentication and opens nothing remotely.

Your router's page opens locally, on your own network.

You know right away whether the address answers. Where the system sometimes took a minute to decide, the app settles it in about a dozen seconds, while still giving a slow-starting box its chance. A safety net comes with it as well: after an unexpected error, an explanatory screen lets you restart the app.
