AuraDrop is a library of real field recordings. Every sound was
captured on location with a Zoom H6 and a 3Dio binaural
microphone. Nothing here is AI-generated, and nothing is
licensed stock audio.

HOW THEY ARE MADE

Getting a clean rain recording is mostly waiting. The window is
narrow — before sunrise, before the birds start, while the rain
is still steady.

The recorder goes on a tripod, shielded with a synthetic
windscreen and a small umbrella so droplets never strike the
capsules. A single drop on the housing leaves a click that no
amount of processing will remove.

Then we walk away. Fifty meters or more, and stand still. At
the gain needed to capture distant rain, a person near the
microphone is the loudest thing in the file. Breathing is
audible. A rain jacket is audible.

Nothing is layered, sampled, or synthesized. What you hear is
one place, on one night.

3D BINAURAL AUDIO

Selected tracks are true binaural recordings, made with a
microphone shaped like a human head. On headphones you hear
depth and direction — rain moving across the canopy above you,
thunder rolling in from somewhere behind.

This effect needs headphones. On speakers the two channels
combine and the spatial cues are lost, so those tracks play in
standard stereo instead.


WHY REAL RECORDINGS SOUND DIFFERENT

Rain has no sound of its own. What you hear is water striking
leaves, bark, soil and standing water — hundreds of impacts at
once, each at a different mass, angle and distance.

A dense rainforest canopy turns one rainfall into that
layering. An open field in the same downpour gives you a thin,
undifferentiated hiss. Generated rain gives you something
closer to filtered noise.

That layering is what makes a place sound like a place. It is
also why these recordings are left unprocessed — no noise
reduction, no artificial reverb, no stacking.
