Voice and text off grid works great. The down loaded maps are really cool. One issue with the map is you have to down load the street style and whatever map you want. With out the street it will not work once you are off grid. You can use a very large scale on the street map, like a whole state. But over all the off grid functionality is awesome.

Just got our devices. Love it so far. It works. Will see how we like it when it gets put to the test. --> Tested this in our area. No connection greater than 1 mile. My husband predicted this due to the valley we're in and other buildings and things that can interfere. Will test in other environments such as Six Flags Great Escape (No Project Fi Cell Service). Beartooth devices will be good for battery banks.

Must have for hiking groups I spend a lot of time out of signal areas with my friends, a few of us decided to try out this device and we haven't looked back. I will admit I ran into a few issues with bluetooth at first but the last major update solved all the issues I had. You should ignore a lot of the 1 star reviews they're either by people who are too lazy to contact Beartooth's great support staff or simply didnt pay attention to the ad where it explicitly shows you need the Beartooth device

Doesn't work past 11 feet. Drains itself dead from just sitting in less than 24 hrs. Waste of money. I'd be dead if I had to depend on these. Just to be clear- the app is for their walkies, WHICH SUCK! I'm talking about both, their action w/the apps & the devices function. The app itself is cute, although you can forget about finding other users in your area- I live in LA & noone ever shows up on the app. Even when I'm sitting next to someone, it won't show you where others are close to you!😡

I've really wanted this device and app to work well, and even deleted an older review hoping some of the issues would be resolved. However, neither work well. For the app, offline maps simply don't work. You can download areas, but the app won't load them while offline. The devices work well enough, but will disconnect if left idling too long, even if except from power monitoring. There's also still no support for mesh networking, which was a big part of the initial advertising. This still doesn't take into account the app's difficult to use UI. As a project coming out of someone's hobby, they did a great job. But for a commercially available product, they're still to far out from being ready.
