Blind children often lack access to stories, and one reason is that recording audiobooks requires time and resources. Bedtime Donations is here to change that. It’s an app developed by The Royal Society for Blind Children, U.K. (RSBC) to democratize audiobooks for children in the vision-impaired community worldwide.
To donate your bedtime story to blind children, all you need to do is download Bedtime Donations, choose a tale to tell, and read it out loud. The app will record every word you say and turn it into a free audiobook.
You can donate as many stories as you wish.
Now, the bedtime story you read to your child can be heard by thousands of blind children.

Lovely idea but needs polishing! Could do with a filter for story donators to filter the ones that haven't already been read/donated. It takes a long time to find one to actually record. Otherwise, it's a great app and such a lovely idea!

Just saw on BBC News. Could do with an upload function, as I have stories I've already recorded (some with radio-type SFX) that I could add. Elsewhere, a contact email in the app would be useful. However, I realize BD launched today, and that this is V1.0 of the app!

A wonderful idea. But I was extremely disappointed to note that every reader I listened to had an English accent. I think it would be lovely to hear Welsh, Scottish and Irish accents too as I'm sure there will be children from all over the UK using this app. Hopefully as more stories are added there will be a more inclusive variety of voices.

Had to search all the way through the stories, trying to find one that hasn't already been told. There aren't any. Why not just separate the ones that haven't been recorded yet and, if there aren't any, show that immediately. Please don't waste people's time when they're trying to do a good thing

The developers are probably wondering why so many sign-ups end up not getting verified despite continual requests for a verification code. Well, you made it so when the user moves from the login screen of the app to check the received email code, then the app returns to the main login screen and verification request starts all over again. Nice work.
