This is a wrapper for the Xeno Canto database, and seems to be one of the few that is actively maintained. You can download individual recordings for offline use, and it caches recently played recordings, but a major issue is that there is no way to bulk download a few recordings for all species in a given region. Edit: I earlier complained about the search, but within days the developer fixed this. Very responsive! Star rating adjusted because of this.

Hi there, thanks for your app, can I make another suggestion regarding short codes? Remove spaces, so tawny Eagle will then appear as an option if you type in yea (last letter of tawny plus first letters of eagle).

The app is very good. A convenient tool for me to study birds. I have used it extensively for identifying warblers of our region (without actually playing sounds in the field). It is useful for other birds too. I can boast of recognizing birds' calls of more than 350 birds due to this app. The app is not working since last about a month. Hope the working resumes. Thank you.

It used to be such a good app, now it says No Internet Connection and do I have Internet otherwise I would not be posting this review. Waste of time.

Great initiative, yet not usable. When I push on the speaker icon next to
any recording it says "Loading". Each loading process takes 2 minutes.
During the loading I can't go back or cancel this step.

This app used to be great. Unfortunately a major upgrade that took place early in 2026 had been a bit of a disaster to users of the previous version. All the offline songs that had been downloaded from the great on-line database with the previous version, suddenly appeared as "No Offline Downloads", so all lost 🙁 The 'new' on-line database is almost empty in comparison, especially for the UK, with mainly poor recording examples now available. Sadly a terrible upgrade. 🙁
