Description by Derter(from Google Play)
Chess - Play with Friends brings classic 2D chess to your phone. Invite a friend to an online game, find another player for a rated match, or practice against a computer opponent. Choose a friendly challenge, a competitive game or a training session at your own pace.
Play chess with friends online
Create a private match and send your friend an invitation link. Play together in real time, try combinations and test your ideas on the same virtual chessboard. Choose White, Black or a random side. Private games do not change your online rating, so you can explore openings and enjoy a friendly match without rating pressure.
There is no registration form to fill in, email address to enter or password to create before playing. Online play uses a guest profile. Invite someone you know and get straight to the board.
Online chess against other players
Search for an opponent and take part in rated online matches. Online matchmaking uses a 5+3 time control: five minutes for each player, with three seconds added after every move. It gives you time to consider a position while keeping the game moving.
Follow the clocks, move list and captured pieces as the match unfolds. Send preset emojis to react to a surprising move or an interesting moment. Shared online matches can include players from the Android and browser versions of the game.
Chess against the computer
Practice against a bot when you want a game without searching for another player. Adjust the computer opponent to suit your session:
- Easy, medium or hard difficulty. - Balanced, aggressive or positional playing style. - White, Black or a random side. - Timed games or play without a time limit.
Computer mode offers time controls including 1+0, 3+0, 3+2, 5+0, 5+3, 10+0, 15+10 and 30+0. Pick a faster game to practice making decisions, or turn off the clock and take time to study each position.
Work on piece development, king safety, exchanges and calculating variations. Try a different plan, change the bot settings and practice the parts of your game that need attention. Games against the computer do not affect the shared leaderboard.
Review your game
After a played match, you can open a game review to step through the moves, see position evaluations and examine suggested best continuations. Return to the moments that changed the game and look for opportunities you missed.
Compare the move you chose with another possibility, then take what you learned into your next match. Game review is unlocked through a voluntary rewarded ad. An internet connection is needed to load the analysis.
Rating and personal progress
Open My Progress to see your results against the bot and in online play: wins, draws, losses and best winning streaks. Follow your results and set personal goals, whether that means playing more carefully or beating your previous streak.
The shared leaderboard displays online ratings and your position among ranked players. Ratings change through rated online games; private matches and computer practice are not included. Local statistics are saved on your device.
A clear chessboard for your phone
Play in portrait or turn your phone sideways for landscape: the interface adapts to the screen orientation. Board coordinates and highlighted legal moves help you follow the position. Tap a piece, then tap the square where you want it to move.
The aim of a classic chess game is to checkmate your opponent. Keep your king safe, watch for threats and consider the other player's reply before committing to a move. Use friendly matches and computer practice to explore your own approach to chess.
The interface is available in English, Spanish and Russian. The game contains advertising. Online matches, leaderboard updates and game reviews require an internet connection.
Whether you have a friend ready for a challenge or want to practice on your own, choose a mode and start playing. Invite a friend, set up the computer opponent and make your next move in chess!
