Comments on Chessnut Android for Android

★★★★☆ Mark Lunn · Jan 24, 2026

Great app for using the move. Love the seamless connection to the board. A couple of things that would improve the android app and would have received 5 ⭐. The voice commands would be easier if they followed the current system for writing moves like Nc3 rather than b1 to c3. The other is the ability to photograph positions from books like the apple IOS does

BRAVO! 👏🏻 Very well done Chestnut team, you not only have a board that works better than the competition, but your app is also better developed. I just have one suggestion, it would be appreciated if you could add the function of seeing the clock big in all the screen instead of the board for online games.

★★☆☆☆ Francois Orsini · Jan 27, 2026

Android is lacking compared to iphone. - Still not possible to load a photo as advertised to have the board setup - Not possible to add opening name during analysis. - Chess training subscription not possible with Chestnut Move board. Having to enter a FEN or PGN manually in analysis mode is NOT what I would expect in 2026! Especially with the pricy move board. Puzzles are a very nice add but please add photo upload like on iOS.

Application unable to connect to my chestnut air board. Did never work also all lights blink ok on the board

★★☆☆☆ Kevin Fairchild · Nov 2, 2025

App crashed on initial load. Eventually got it to work. Issues creating a new account due to CAPTCHA challenges (why don't they use the newer style?!?!?), and then I finally got the CAPTCHA to work, but then the username was already in use, so I had to change that and keep trying CAPTCHA until I proved I was human. Wild. Interface seemed decent. Tried playing against the bot. Board loaded. As soon as I touched the screen to make my move, the board went completely black and no pieces visible :(

App only connects to the board about one out of every four times on my pixel phone, one out of every two times on my pixel tablet. Frequent disconnects and crashes. On the pixel phone. It shows a different version number of than firmware on the board then is shown on my pixel tablet. The pixel tablet is probably right. Can't change the Wi-Fi network of the board from either device.
