Chiffry Secure Messenger is an IT-security certified encrypted messenger backed by Germany-based data handling. It delivers end-to-end encryption for text, voice, and media, with device-side keys and ISO-certified data centers, plus a long-standing market presence. With 10,000+ total downloads and 12 in the last 30 days, it targets security-conscious users seeking privacy-first communication.
Pros & Cons
Strong end-to-end encryption aligned with German security standards (BSI-guided) and device-resident keys.
Free basic version with optional Premium and business tiers for expanded security.
Multi-platform availability (Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone) with ISO-certified hosting.
Transparent data handling: minimal server data (phone numbers and public keys) and ISO 27001/ISO 9001 certifications.
May lack some features highlighted by competitors, such as broader privacy-focused messaging options, video messaging, and extensive enterprise integrations.
Group chats are limited to 10 members in the basic feature set, which may be restrictive for larger collaborations.
Support for older platforms (BlackBerry/Windows Phone) suggests a dated ecosystem compared with some rivals.

Description
Chiffry is the first communication app with the quality label "IT Security made in Germany". This encrypted messenger allows you to send text and voice messages securely, share pictures, videos, contacts and locations confidentially and also make tap-proof phone calls.
AVAILABLE FOR: - ANDROID - BLACKBERRY - iOS - WINDOWS PHONE
MOST MODERN SECURITY FUNCTIONS
For encryption, Chiffry follows the BSI guidelines and uses the latest end-to-end encryption with 256-bit AES in GCM mode. All messages and telephone calls are encrypted on the sender's device and decrypted on the recipient's device. The encryption key is regenerated before each message or telephone call and is transmitted to the recipient according to the mailbox principle using modern elliptic curve cryptography (512-bit ECDH). In addition, all messages with 512-bit ECDSA signatures are forgery-proof and every user is identified thanks to encryption certificates. For comparison: online banks generally use 2,048 to 4,096-bit RSA encryption. The 512-bit EC encryption used by Chiffry corresponds to 15,500-bit RSA encryption. The effort to guess this key is at least 3.4 * 1038 times higher. (Sources: BSI TR-02102-1, TR-03111)
SECURE DATA TRANSMISSION
At Chiffry, data protection is a priority. The data transfer is carried out via the Chiffry communication servers. Those are located in envia TEL's high-performance data-centre, which is one of the most secure in Germany and meets the highest requirements for security, connectivity and availability. It is certified according to IT security standard ISO 27001 & management standard ISO 9001. Only telephone number and public keys for communication are recorded on the Chiffry server during registration. All messages remain on the server in an encrypted state until they are delivered to the recipient and are deleted after delivery or after 21 days at the latest. End-to-end encryption means that neither Chiffry employees nor third parties can access the content of these messages, as the encryption key is only located at the sender and recipient's premises to encrypt and decrypt information.
FEATURES OF THE BASIC VERSION:
- Tap-proof encrypted phone calls - Sending voice and short messages confidentially - Share pictures, videos, contacts and locations confidentially - Sending encrypted messages and notes - Encrypted chat and group chat with up to 10 members - Free phone calls via Internet

Can use again The application icon had disappeared sometime after the last update. Rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0. Update: Uninstalled then reinstalled and icon reappeared. I wonder if ART odexing corrupted the file when I updated my system partition.

Trust & Safety: Chiffry emphasizes strong security with end-to-end encryption (256-bit AES in GCM, 512-bit ECC, and 512-bit ECDSA signatures) and device-only encryption keys. Server-side data is minimized (only phone numbers and public keys during registration), and messages remain encrypted on servers until delivery or are deleted after delivery or within 21 days. A broad permissions set (location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage, notifications, etc.) supports its security-focused features. Overall, it presents a robust trust profile, but users should review location and contact permissions in light of their privacy preferences.
