Description
An object appears in grey. You know exactly what it is. But do you remember its colour?
Colorama never shows you the answer first. Other colour games flash a swatch for three seconds and then ask you to recall it — what they measure is your last three seconds. Here there is no reference at all. You turn two sliders and rebuild the red of a flag, the green of a motorway sign, the shirt your team plays in, from memory. What gets measured is your long-term, cultural colour memory.
Then the real colour is revealed, side by side with your guess.
HOW IT PLAYS • The object arrives in greyscale — named, but colourless. • Two sliders: hue and vividness. You build the colour you believe it is. • Confirm, and the true colour opens next to yours. • Scoring uses CIELAB ΔE2000, so the game measures the difference your eye actually sees, not raw RGB distance. Missing a blue costs the same as missing a green. • Brightness is fixed per object and never exposed to a slider, which keeps a perfect hit reachable.
MODES • Daily — the same 5 objects for everyone, one attempt a day, streak tracked. • Single player — pick a category and play rounds of 10, as long as you like. • Duel — the same 10 objects for both sides, 30 seconds each, closest guess wins. If no human opponent is available you are matched with a simulated one, whose name begins with the word "Bot" on screen and who carries a robot badge instead of a flag. • Ranking — where your duel average places you. Every other row on that board is a simulated player, and the screen says so. • Private room — send a code to a friend and play the same objects together.
CATEGORIES • Flags — flags everyone knows, shades no one is sure of • Traffic & Warning — the sign colours you pass every day • Kits — you know your team, but do you know its colours? • Games & Toys — from cube puzzles to controller buttons • Vehicle Colours — taxis, race cars, diggers, anything on wheels • Colour Names — what shade is "turquoise", exactly? • Brand Colours — the shelf colours you walk past every week • Mixed — a random draw from all of them
THE CATALOGUE IS THE POINT More than 270 objects, and every colour traces back to a source: official flag specifications, industry colour standards, road-marking norms, established colour names. Anything whose colour drifts from one example to the next — fruit, flowers, animals — never made it in, because a question without a defensible answer cannot be scored. Objects with a weak source were left out too.
AN HONEST GAME • No ads. • No in-app purchases. • No account needed to play. • Works offline; only playing live with a friend needs a connection. • No tracking, no analytics, no ad identifier. Your stats live on your phone; when you sign in to play live they are also backed up under your anonymous identity so a new phone does not lose them. Both can be wiped from Settings. • When we have no data, we show no number. You will never read "you beat 97% of players" here unless it is true.
ACCESSIBILITY AND LANGUAGES High-contrast mode, respect for the system reduce-motion setting, separate switches for sound and haptics. Ten languages: English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese. Arabic flips the whole layout right to left.
Some objects are shown as real photographs rather than drawings. Those photographs come from licensed sources; author, licence and source link are listed one by one on the in-app credits screen.
Share a round as a single image and ask a friend how close they can get.
Note: Colorama is not a colour-blindness test or a vision test. It measures how accurately your memory stores colour, not what your eye sees right now.
Recent changes: First release.
