Grocery List App - rShopping

(tl;dr: I like it, my roommate likes it, it has a few odd quirks, but five stars anyway because I can live with them.) I have been looking for a shopping list that works like Handy shopper did on PalmOS since transitioning to Android twelve years prior to this review, and this is about the closest I have found to Handy shopper - and it works almost exactly the way I want it to work. This lets one store their entire list of stuff on the app, and allows for rather granular classification of store data - and works remarkably well for a particular grocery store known for a pseudo-nautical theme and named after some guy named Joseph, largely owing to how they arrange their stores. Cross-network sharing to another user is seamless and superfast (this requires a small monthly subscription charge - but it's not only worth it, it's a significant improvement from its predecessor since PalmOS really did not have that ability). Backups are pretty painless as well - one need merely select a list, back it up, and the app offers options to share it using whatever mechanisms are available on the device. My backup storage of choice is Google Drive, so I just save to that, and it's on my desktop at home exactly one jiffy after saving it. Even my roommate likes it - we're both ADHD, so having something this advanced really helps us shop for what we need and also helps us avoid impulse buying. She never could get into other shopping lists, but once I got her into this one she was sold. I have only four complaints, all of them quite minor. One is the lack of a web UI that somebody can work from their desktop or laptop computer - but all considered, this is pretty minor as the app manages to make it intuitive to work within the app, so the lack of web interface really isn't much of an issue. It's still a touch clunky, but the chunkiness is more a function of physical device size limitations: you can only fit so much UI onto a smartphone screen. The second is that there is no way to import a CSV or other "flat-text" file containing a list of items. This was made up for in the developer's responsiveness, however, as they were willing and able to provide a CSV specification and create a database file that can be quickly imported into the app. The third is a function of the second complaint: backups are database files and cannot be edited easily. The app cannot export to, say, a CSV file such that one can bulk edit as they feel the need. This, however, would likely be a function of the way the data is stored and used within the app. Between the app's intuitiveness and the dev's responsiveness, it kinda balances out These leaves only one real "pain point" for me, but it's minor and does not affect my rating: there does not seem to be a way to "bulk add" items from a CSV to a given store without overwriting the existing data set. Restoring a backup overwrites an existing list, so if one has several items they wish to bring in they must add them by hand. Having said that the UI is intuitive, it can still be a bit difficult to add more than a couple of new items at a time. About the only workaround is to use an external Bluetooth keyboard; those are not hard to come by and one can generally buy a good Bluetooth keyboard brand new for less than US$50. All in all, this is an excellent app. Five stars despite the quirks, as I can work around the quirks pretty easily.
