Working on my new S23. Follow the instructions to set up the app in the Android Police article, go into your Google account into the Security settings, click on 2-step verification, scroll all the way down to App Passwords, click on that & you'll be able to generate a password for SMS backup+. Screenshot that password, go back into the app & enter password under Custom Imap Server.

1* App no longer works with Gmail, without 2-factor authentication, which is too much work for me to approve every Google Acct. Login, for Call & Texts to be backed up. Thanks, for years of easy 5***** operation, sorry Google control freaks stopped the App Password solution.
