Comprehensive Legal Dictionary

This application and the dictionary were issued after a five-year effort of teaching the course of legal translation to the bachelor's and master's degree students at Yarmouk University, Department of Translation, Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Harashsha The dictionary was issued from English to Arabic And vice versa, so that all those interested in this area can benefit from.

About the dictionary

This dictionary is very useful for legal translators, lawyers, judges and anyone interested in legal translation, where the labor market is very large these days, so I hope this modest effort will have great scientific and academic value for my students and colleagues interested in legal translation.

Because ordinary dictionaries are not effective in the process of legal translation, this dictionary is created to be special only in the legal terminology, the dictionary is derived from all kinds of legal and commercial documents such as contracts, agreements, certificates, and other legislative and legal texts. It also includes the names of professions and ranks, names of organizations, ministries and other institutions in addition to common words and terms.

This dictionary is different from other dictionaries, as it contains words, phrases and sentences, in order to facilitate the process of translation. A lot of terms and phrases are taken from live documents translated from Arabic to English and vice versa.

About legal translation

Legal translation is one of the most difficult translations types, especially since the legal language has special features that distinguish it from the academic language. Legal language is a tradition inherited across generations. Many words and expressions have long been used in legal documents, although they are not used in practical life. There are many abandoned and artistic words that are used exclusively in legal documents. The legal documents contain rights, obligations and obligations of the parties to the contract. The deletion of a word or the addition of a word may lead to a change in the legal document or a change in the meaning.
