Wow, after getting a dev response that ignored what I said about the animations, they added a way to disable them, as I suggested. They don't change back to the old ones though, the cat just doesn't move at all I guess? I'd realized my rating was harsher than I'd intended and planned to change it, but the dev's disrespectful response despite my trying to be polite has dissuaded me for now. Also, their “zero ads” claim isn't true, I get one before every level. I do want to like this game though.
