Daphnia are mysterious creatures with astonishing vitality despite their tiny bodies. With just water, light, and the right temperature, they can reproduce without special equipment. "Daphnia Simulation" is a full-scale aquarium simulator that lets you experience the wonders of this tiny ecosystem right on your smartphone.
- The Core Ecosystem Cycle (Light, Algae, and NPK) This simulator models a closed ecological cycle. Utilizing your smartphone's light sensor, you can introduce "Light" to stimulate the growth of algae (cyanobacteria). Algae perform photosynthesis, supplying "Oxygen" and serving as the primary "Food" for the daphnia, which actively prey on cyanobacteria. As daphnia consume algae, they use up food and oxygen. When they die, their remains decompose into "NPK" (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), a powerful fertilizer that accelerates further algae growth. Balancing this delicate web of light, oxygen, food, and nutrients is the key to sustaining your population.
- Realistic Biological Traits and Behavior The app meticulously replicates the distinct biological traits of daphnia: 1. Phototaxis: Daphnia react dynamically to light. They exhibit negative phototaxis, swimming away from intense light to seek cover, and positive phototaxis under moderate conditions, allowing you to guide them using your phone's sensor. 2. Hemoglobin Color Change: When the population explodes or algae plummets, oxygen levels drop. In response, daphnia synthesize hemoglobin, turning their translucent bodies vividly red. This serves as a vital visual distress signal. 3. Genetic Inheritances: Every individual possesses a unique genetic profile.
