Avant-propos Le terme ‘Frafra’ est utilisé souvent pour désigner un ensemble de dialectes qui est composé des sous-groupes suivants : le Gurene, le Nankani, le Booni et le Ninkare. Entre ces différents parlers il y a un très grand degré d'intercompréhension. Le dialecte parlé au Burkina Faso est appelé ninkare. Il est assez proche du farefare (or gurenne/gurune parlé au Ghana voisin), du dagaare et du mooré, en plus le ninkare est apparanté au Kusaal (lui aussi parlé au Burkina Faso et au Ghana). Même le dagbani et le mampruli sont des proches «cousins linguistiques». Au Burkina Faso, les langues géographiquement voisines du ninkare sont le kassem à l'ouest, le bisa au nord et à l'est. La langue ninkãrɛ est une langue «oti-volta» qui a été classée dans le groupe occidental de la sous-famille Gur. Le ninkãrɛ ou frafra (aussi appelé gʋrnɛ ou 'gurenne' et nankam) est parlé par à peu près 500'000 locuteurs au Ghana et environ 30'000 personnes au Burkina Faso. Au Ghana on distingue 4 dialectes. Il en a cependant un seul parler avec peu de différences dialectales au Burkina Faso. Au Burkina Faso, les gens concernés sont d'accord de prendre le langage de Guélwongo, le centre commercial de la région, comme standard pour la langue écrite. L'orthographe est différente de celui du Ghana à cause de l'alphabet national qui est différent et parce que les Ninkãrsɩ du Burkina ont élaboré leur propre orthographe selon les conventions du pays. The term ‘Frafra’ is often used to designate the cluster of dialects of which Gurene, Nankani, Booni and Ninkare are members. There is a considerable degree of mutual intelligibility among these dialects. The dialect spoken in Burkina Faso, called Ninkare is most closely related to Farefare (or Gurenne/Gurune spoken in neighboring Ghana), Dagaare and Moore, but is also related to Kusaal (also spoken in Burkina Faso and in Ghana), and to Dagbani and Mampruli. In Burkina Faso, the neighboring language to the west is Kasem, with Bissa to the north and east. In Ghana, the neighboring languages are Buli, Kusaal and Mampruli. The Ninkare region in Burkina Faso is located in the country's south-eastern corner, in the province of Nahouri, about 200 km from Ouagadougou. However, the great majority (over 90%) of this ethnic group is found in northern Ghana. The traditional religion continues to have a very strong influence among the Ninkarse. Christianity and Islam were only introduced after the middle of the 20th century. Terms used to refer to the language and its speakers are: Ninkãrɛ - the language Ninkãrga - a person who speaks Ninkare Ninkãrsɩ - people who speak Ninkare Ninkɔrŋɔ - the homeland of the Ninkarse
