DoC (Department of Commerce)

The Department of Commerce, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is responsible for formulating and implementing policies that promote and regulate the country’s external trade. The Department plays a vital role in strengthening India’s position in the global trading system by facilitating exports, enhancing market access, and supporting the competitiveness of Indian goods and services in international markets.

The Department works towards creating a transparent, predictable, and supportive policy environment for exporters, industry stakeholders, and trade institutions. Through the development and implementation of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), it provides the strategic framework for promoting exports and expanding India’s trade engagement with the world.

A key focus of the Department is to expand India’s export potential by improving trade facilitation, strengthening trade infrastructure, and supporting businesses in accessing global markets. The Department also represents India in bilateral, regional, and multilateral trade negotiations and works to build strong commercial partnerships with countries across the globe.

In addition, the Department oversees various export promotion bodies, commodity boards, and trade development institutions that support sector-specific export growth and market development.

By promoting international trade, facilitating policy reforms, and supporting exporters, the Department of Commerce contributes significantly to India’s economic growth, employment generation, and integration with the global economy.
