Dvandva: Mahabharata Archery

Kurukshetra at dawn. Two warriors draw their bows. The wind turns. One arrow can change the war.

Dvandva is a turn-based archery strategy game from the Mahabharata. Become Arjuna, Karna, Bhima, Drona or Duryodhana, read the wind, set your angle and power, and loose your arrow at your rival across the battlefield. Every shot is a decision: which astra, which moment, and from where.

DIVINE ASTRAS
Carry ten astras into each duel, chosen from sixteen. Send Garuda diving from the sky to seize a serpent, call Vidyut lightning down on your foe, raise Varuna's tide with Jal, set the field ablaze with Agni, rain acid with Amla Varsha, or loose the piercing Bhedak spear. Elements combine: a soaked warrior takes double from lightning, and a corroded one burns longer.

FIVE HEROES, FIVE DIVINE WEAPONS
Karna's Vasavi Shakti never misses, once in a duel. Arjuna's Pashupatastra breaks the sky when he is gravely wounded, and costs him his next turn. Bhima hurls his Gada, the great mace Maya brought him, on his father Vayu's wind, and no Kavach can hold against it. Drona's Brahmastra strikes a wide field, and only another Brahmastra can meet it. Duryodhana signals the Volley of the Eleven Armies, a rain of arrows from the host he led.

A SPECIAL ASTRA FOR EACH HERO
Twice a duel, every hero can loose his own special astra. Arjuna's Sammohana dazes: the rival's aim sways and he walks half as far. Karna's Bhargavastra looses five arrows from the bow, one after another. Bhima's Simhanada is a lion's roar whose waves cross the field, throw the rival back and daze him. Drona's Chakravyuha traps the rival for two turns: no walking, jumping or Kavach. Duryodhana throws Shakuni's dice, the long four-sided pasa: 1 or 2 is a heavy blow, 5 heals, 6 gives another turn.

PRAY FOR THE KAVACH
Lay down the bow, salute the sky, and divine armour forms on you, each hero's own: Surya's light for Karna, a lotus of light for Arjuna, Vayu's wind for Bhima, a yantra of light for Drona, Gandhari's gaze for Duryodhana. It turns blows to the head and body, but the legs stay bare. Aim low, or bring the weapons made to break it.

CHARIOTS AND WAR ELEPHANTS
Ride into battle on a horse-drawn chariot or a war elephant. Fight on the open plain of Kurukshetra or in the royal Rangabhumi arena, with banners, dust, fire and storms.
