Description by Star Images Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
The heart of Eclipse Predictor is an interactive UI designed as a mechanical astrolabe. Users manipulate concentric disks representing the relative positions of the Sun, Moon, and the lunar orbital nodes. Advancing the outer time disk allows users to dynamically explore the cyclical nature of these events. The interface implements 'Snap & Lock' technology, where the disks automatically align and lock into precise position when the criteria for an eclipse—the synodic and draconic months aligning near an orbital node—are met. Upon activation, the screen adapts to visualize the intricate eclipse geometry.
Calculations are based on the implementation of simplified astronomical algorithms and precise Saros cycle theory, allowing for exploration of eclipse paths hundreds of years into the past and future without the need for an active data connection. The application handles the varying angular diameters of the celestial bodies to differentiate between total and annular solar eclipses, as well as penumbral and umbral lunar eclipses. Eclipse Predictor is a powerful educational and scientific tool for understanding the geometry of our solar system
