Some of the answers you have are incorrect. Ther is no such thing as took up. Unless someone took something and then went up... and if you want proper grammar...? TOOK is a past tense word. Correct choice, if offered. Would have been TAKEN over. Not, took over which was closest to correct... the children had TAKEN over the bench.
