Description
AVOID SPEEDING TICKETS! A GPS based speed camera/speed trap detector, which supports multiple databases.
- Access to FREE database - Reflection display (HUD) - Average speed: Automatically track your speed through a SPECS zone - the first speed camera app to do this. - Radar/Map view - Add cameras as you go - Works offline - Spoken warnings - Customizable sounds - GPX Data Logging: Record your track to a file - Background operation with any navigation app - Works in any country - Auto update feature with PocketGPSWorld database - Speed and Mini Radar overlay in background mode - Makes use of directional camera information from SpeedCameraPOI.com and PocketGPSWorld databases to reduce false alerts.
- Widget available as separate download from market. Allows EZCam to be started in background mode and can also start EZCam when USB power is connected. Will also start other applications such as Google Navigation.
EZCam works with a number of vendors databases which can be downloaded directly via the EZCam interface:
- SpeedCameraPOI.com (Free) - PocketGPSWorld (Requires subscription) - MapaRadar - South America (Free)
A number of other vendors are supported and databases can be installed via SDCard or downloaded via a web browser:
- Scdb.info (European cameras including Belgian and Dutch) - GPS Data Team (worldwide camera support)
NOTE: Mobile phones cannot detect radar signals from police equipment. This application like all others uses a GPS based location paired with a database to determine the proximity of known speed cameras.

QUESTION PLEASE!.... Have other people here found that the £20/yr PocketGPSWorld database offers much of an improvement over the free one from SpeedCameraPOI? Is it much more extensive, & do you think that it justifies the cost? Sadly, it seems to be more than 1.5 yrs since the free database was updated. All answers gratefully received (I’ll check back here regularly!) I'm loving the app so far (I've more real-world testing to do). Best features of any speedcam app I've tried. Requests: give the option to make the speed & radar overlays smaller, so they don’t obscure so much of the screen beneath them (& definitely make their backgrounds less opaque). Also, make the map zoom-able. Also, on the Alerts Settings page, make it less easy to accidentally change the Alert Angle setting whilst scrolling up/down. Also, a better Help page, including info on the differences between the camera types (& is a Fixed Camera a generic term?) And most importantly (work with the webmasters to) allow us to edit/ add cameras to their databases from within your app. This is the best way to encourage people to keep them up-to-date. I also found a few small bugs - emailed to the dev's. (SGS2)

Works well Works well for me. Have used it on Samsung galaxy s2 and Europa with no real probs. Works equally well with google maps and with navfree apps.

Was working well but now I can't download my gpsworld updates

Good concept, doesn't seem to quite work though I bought this with the intention of running in the background behind Google Maps Navigation. The overlay option and the option in the widget to auto launch on USB power are very good ideas, but sometimes the overlays get in the way of what you're trying to do on the device. An option to click to hide them temporarily, or to be able to drag them out of the way would be a huge improvement. I also found that using it in the background behind Google Maps doesn't work as well as an integrated navigation and speed camera app would. It constantly alerts about speed cameras on nearby roads, causing distraction from driving. I wish I could have trialled this before buying - my advice is to try one with a free trial first, or possibly one of the navigation apps with speed camera support. I think I'll wait for Google to directly support camera locations in Navigation before investing in another app (if ever).
