Food Moisture Test

Food Moisture Test is a simple app that shows the detailed test method of moisture in foods in a stepwise manner. It also has a simple moisture calculator which gives instantaneous results by feeding three values. This saves time and is a handy tool to work with.
Why testing moisture?
Foods contain water whether they are natural or processed. A minimal amount of moisture is always needed to maintain consistency and form. However excess moisture spoils the food by encouraging the growth of microbes and may become toxic because of fungal and bacterial toxins.
Excess moisture may be originating from lack of proper drying or water drenching, water absorption and such reasons and ultimately affects the quality.
Moisture test is one of the very well known test and can be conducted by several methods. There are some automated moisture meters available for instantaneous tests as well.
However a conventional and most acceptable test of moisture in foods is by oven method. In fact this is a method of testing loss on drying by keeping a known quantity of sample in an oven at about 100 degrees centigrade and checking the loss of weight in a span of about three hours.
As it is a loss of drying technique it has limitations for certain products where volatile components are present in the sample.
The app
The app presents a slide show of various steps involved in testing moisture content in foods. It can be watched by horizontal swiping and shows pictures of the actual moisture test in sequence.
The app has a simple interface and has a button for calculating moisture. With initial and final weights entered in the calculator instantaneously the results of moisture appear. The app is handy and can be used in a mobile phone or a tab conveniently.
