Description
Foodprint connects users to eateries with surplus food available for purchase at 30% the normal price. Each day the eateries who have partnered with Foodprint upload surplus food items that will otherwise be thrown out. The food is still completely fine to eat and of the same quality as if you’d purchased directly from the store itself. In just a few clicks, you can search for and purchase food items while exploring local eateries and rescuing food from being sent to landfill.
In Foodprint you can: - Discover food available using the interactive map or list view - Order and pay for your food - Follow your favourite eateries to receive notifications when they have food available - Filter your search based on your location and dietary requirements - Search specific food items to satisfy your cravings - Leave a review of your experience for the eatery to see - See all previous orders - Invite your friends to join you in rescuing food - Track how much money you saved - Track how much carbon you’ve saved - Securely store your credit card for easy purchasing
Why is food waste an issue? Humans overproduce food so much, that we end up throwing ⅓ of it away. This is a huge waste of not only the food but also the resources that went into creating that food such as the land, water, labour and money. What’s worse, is that when food is sent to landfill it decomposes and emits the greenhouse gas methane, which is a huge contributor to climate change.
In New Zealand, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets produce 50,000 tonnes of food waste annually. Over 60% of this waste is preventable as the food is still fit for human consumption. Foodprint provides a practical easy-to-use solution that is appealing to users and eateries, allowing both to reduce their foodprint.
Together, the Foodprint community rescues food, saves money and helps the environment.

Love being able to rescue some food. Great for helping the budget. Just wish there were more eateries in my area using it

I love love love Footprint! It's really cool being able to grab some nice and affordable lunch (or the odd treat) whenever I feel like it! Can't wait to have more options, especially in other parts of NZ!

Great idea, easy to use. Can't wait for more places to come onboard.

Awesome app. Saved a few items myself, found places I didn't know where around. App has a feature for allergy options. Food to be rescued usually pops up and disappears quickly, some regular places have notifications set for the same time each day. I keep getting notifications for a few places I've looked at once or twice but haven't added as a favorite.

This app REQUIRES notifications to work. The app asks permission (that's a good thing) to access your location and to send notifications about food needing to be saved. If this permission is refused, then you cannot use the app. Every time you attempt to log in, there is an error to say that it cannot initialize notifications and must be restarted. The error only disappears when notifications are turned back on. The app was updated just minutes ago and still requires notifications to be allowed.

App doesn't even let you sign in, keeps saying app unable to open. Was looking forward to this as it's just started up in my area. Fix the glitch please.

Can't create an account. Have tried various methods and passwords, but the sign-up button never allows me to click on it. Have entered all details. Would love to use the app!

The app has suddenly decided I need to enable push notifications in order to use it. Queue a barrage of notifications every time a nearby eatery adds a single item. Stuff off footprint, change it back. Edit: Hi Michal, can you just try disabling the notification settings on your phone itself, and then try opening footprint? I've just done it, and immediately I can't get back in until I enable notifications again. This has only started happening in the last week.

Could be a cool idea but the app doesn't work well, so I decided to uninstall. Cool concept though!
