Fraction Calculator

A calculator for fractions that shows its working.

Type two fractions, pick an operation, press =. You get the answer as a fraction, as an improper fraction and as a decimal, and underneath it every step used to get there, written out in words.

WHAT IT DOES
• Adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides two fractions
• Handles mixed numbers, with a whole-number box you can show or hide
• Finds the lowest common denominator and shows how it rescaled each fraction
• Reduces the result and converts it back to a mixed number
• Explains each step in a full sentence

WHERE THE ANSWER COMES FROM
Any calculator will give you 5/6. This one shows where it came from: which common denominator it chose, what it multiplied each fraction by, which greatest common factor it reduced the answer by. You can copy every line straight into an exercise book.

BUILT TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY
• A keypad made for fractions; the whole expression stays on one screen
• No account and no sign-up
• Nothing you type leaves your phone; the working is done on the device itself
• Ads keep the app free; you can review your ad privacy choices from the ⋮ menu

WHO IT IS FOR
Students working through fractions at school, and anyone helping them: parents at the kitchen table, tutors, teachers preparing examples.
