Confusing initially, the Fruux app only displays your tasks but is involved
in synching your Fruux Calendar and Contacts with the built in Google apps
on your device. The synch setup is managed on the Fruux website once the
app had been installed.

Nice for setup, but a little buggy otherwise Saves having to enter the account details manually. Just enter the Fruux login info and Cal, Cards and Tasks are automatically set up. On Android 2.3, I found that launching the app can, instead of going to the sync settings, bring up tasks. But can still get to the sync settings by going through the android settings app. Edit: I installed this and saw some strange behavior with my CalDAV-sync conduit, which lost the ability to view my Radicale calendars, causing a nasty hang in CalDAV-sync. Disabling and removing the Fruux app restored CalDAV-sync functionality. Just a heads-up for those using other sync conduits. There may be other factors involved, and perhaps only stopping and restarting CalDAV-sync was necessary. BTW, setting up a Fruux acct in CalDAV-sync is painless and works well.

Even after reading reviews, which is apparently the only way to learn how
to set this up I still could not figure out how to view or add a calendar
in this app. I was excited for a Google alternative but I'm not convinced
this even has a calendar feature in the app at this point. Waste of time.

I really like the fruux service, was a paying customer for years, great syncing between all kind of platforms... except android. This app has been horrible, and maybe there are good reasons for it. But this app shouldn't even be in the play store imho. I finally got fruux working but with davdroid.
