Description by LR Appli(from Google Play)
How fast are you going, right now?
From a Shinkansen window, from an aircraft at cruise, from a bicycle saddle. A GPS speedometer that reads your speed on whichever instrument suits the ride — and sits on a car dashboard just as well. Go over a speed you choose and it chimes, the way old cars did.
■ The overspeed chime Pass the speed you set and a bell goes kin-kon, kin-kon while a red zone shows on the dial. It is the speed warning chime older Japanese cars carried, recorded from a real warning bell rather than synthesised. · Set the speed separately for each face — 100 km/h for the car, 30 for the bicycle. · Keep it ringing while your navigation app is on screen (background running). · Or switch it off. The chime is free, and so is changing the speed it sounds at.
■ Eight meter faces · Car (analog) — the classic round dial · Bicycle (bike computer) — the LCD panel that clamps to the handlebar · Shinkansen (ATC) — a wide bar graph with the signalled speed beside it · Airplane (airspeed indicator) — a colour-banded instrument · Marine (speed log) — with knots · Ring (digital) — minimal, the number does the work · LED bar (retro) — a lit bar that climbs with your speed · Discreet (reading app) — a page of a novel fills the screen, with the speed and the trip set small in the footer. For a train carriage, where having a speedometer open is the conspicuous part.
Different rides reach different speeds, so the scale moves with them. You will not be watching a 180 km/h dial from a bicycle. The scale comes down as far as 10 km/h, so the needle still moves on a walk or a run.
■ Beyond speed · An odometer, and a trip meter you can reset · A calendar of each day's top speed and distance, up to 730 days · Open the spot where your top speed happened in your maps app
■ Why the number sits still A phone's GPS reports once a second, and shown raw the number hunts constantly. This app filters out the measurement wander without delaying a real change, and holds at zero while you are stopped instead of drifting between 1 and 2 km/h — a speed smaller than the receiver's own error bar is not read as movement. If GPS drops out in a tunnel, the reading eases down from the last speed and the trip keeps counting.
■ Units km/h, mph, knots and min/km running pace, switched with one tap.
■ Pricing The app is free to download. Two faces — car and LED bar — stay free, along with the speed, the distance, the calendar, the unit switch, each meter's top-of-scale speed, the over-speed chime and the speed it sounds at, and keeping the app running in the background. Nothing about measuring is held back.
A single one-off in-app purchase unlocks the other six faces and the way the app looks: colours, the dial's typeface, the size and weight of the dial numerals, and the texture of the background and the meter face. It is not a subscription and there is nothing further to pay. There are no ads, paid or free.
■ Privacy Your route is not recorded. The calendar keeps one coordinate per day — where that day's top speed happened — and it stays on the device. It leaves the phone only when you ask it to: tapping "See the location" hands it to your maps app, and exporting your calendar under "Moving your data" writes it to a file you send wherever you choose. ■ Please note · Do not operate the app while driving. Ask a passenger, or stop somewhere safe first. · GPS reception (tunnels, tall buildings, indoors) affects accuracy. This app is not a legal substitute for your vehicle's own speedometer. · Using GPS increases battery use. Charging is recommended on long trips.
Recent changes: The first public release. · Eight faces — car, bicycle, Shinkansen (ATC), airspeed indicator, marine speed log, digital ring, LED bar, and a discreet reading page — so the dial suits whatever you are travelling in. · An odometer and a resettable trip meter, plus a calendar of each day's top speed and distance. · km/h, mph, knots and min/km, one tap apart. · A chime when you pass a speed you set. · Your route is never recorded.
