Helm: Language Through News

One habit, two jobs: today's news, in the language you want, with translation and audio whenever you need them.
Free plan: 4 stories a day, with translation and audio on every one. No ads on any plan.

Read today's news in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi or six other languages. When a sentence slows you down, tap it and just that one turns into your own language, right where it sits. With Speech on, Helm reads it aloud so you hear how it sounds. No translator app, no copying and pasting.

Reading and listening
Every language teacher gives the same advice: read the news. Helm is built for that habit, with the translation and the audio inside every story.
• Reading practice every day, on real news about subjects you choose
• Vocabulary in context: new words arrive inside a story, not on a list
• Listening practice: hear anything you read, in all ten languages
• Bilingual reading both ways, between any two of the ten languages
Helm is not a course. It is daily reading on real news, next to a class, a language learning app or a tutor, or on its own.

How a story works
Each story is two or three sentences. Turn on Translate and tap any sentence: it switches to your other language right there, and the rest stays as it is. Turn on Speech and tap a sentence to hear it read aloud. Then read on.

English, Hindi, Spanish and more
Read today's news in English, with Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, Portuguese or another of the ten languages a tap away: English for your work, your exam or your next interview. Or read in Spanish, French, German, Russian, Japanese or Chinese, with English a tap away.

Today's news, from many sources
Hundreds of new stories a day, updated through the day. Each one is built from what many sources agree on, with the full articles linked underneath when you want more. The most covered stories come first.

Your topics, in your own words
Pick built-in topics such as technology, business, finance, culture, music, travel and world regions. Or type a topic in your own words, and Helm finds the stories that match.

Keep what you read
Bookmark a story and its translation and audio come with it. Your activity page counts your days in a row, stories read and translations. Add friends who read too and see their activity next to yours. If you allow notifications, Helm sends you a story worth reading once or twice a day.

No ads
No ads, even on the free plan. Nothing is tuned to keep you scrolling.
