Update 3: Thanks 4 update. This is my personal experience. I think you need to update the rules about pawn promotion and other pieces. Because some pieces will do nothing after get to the end of the board. Change the rules about maximum pieces that can be used after the start of the game too. And about the death pieces need to be used again. Maybe just drop in the first 5 rows of the board. Try search app named chess craft, he uses Unity too. You need to update button pieces. It's OK example.

I spent a good 10 mins without understanding anything but following blindly while trying to figure the basics out. That shows the potential of the game - having someone like me with extremely short attention span to follow something blindly for 10 mins. You should start with introducing the pieces and explain what do they do. Then you explain about basics of tower. Not just jumping straight into strategy. I recommend you to get some ideas from this great game: Learn chess with Dr Wolf.
