Splendid Worked great for pic. Lightweight and can put shortcuts in folders since it's not a widget. Didn't try for video.

Does what it says on the tin! When you run it you get a page of instructions plus the *options* to send feedback or rate the app. When you long click on home screen and 'add shortcut' you can now choose an image. An icon appears on the home screen and clicking on it will display the image. Simple! Thanks dev!

Does not work for video Works great for photos but won't work for videos. Get error message "Cannot crop, using full size image" then next error message says "could not get thumbnail". I am using nexus 5.

Doesn't work When I create a shortcut I select then crop the photo I want, and it will appear in the thumbnail but opening it just opens the first photo in my gallery. Not the one I chose.
